Install a Sound Card
Just about any office supply and computer store sells sound cards. Before purchasing a new sound card, you can check the computer compatibility information either on the PC or online to see if there is any procedure for selecting a sound card. If you don’t have any idea how, you can always ask a sales associate. Explain what kind of computer system that you have and they can suggest a sound card. Creative makes the Sound Blaster series of sound cards that many people are using these days.
Installing a sound card is reasonably simple for anyone to do. Here are a few suggestions: Prior to opening the back of your PC tower, make sure that you disconnect the power and you are grounded to avoid any regrettable accidents. It’s also a good idea to stay away from carpet when conducting the installation. Static electricity can cause permanent damage to electronics.
1. Locate the sound card slot on the back of your tower. On most computer cases, empty slots are covered with a metal bar. Use the first empty slot after a taken one for the sound card.
2. Take a screwdriver and remove the metal bar over the slot.
3. Unpackage your sound card and be careful not to touch any of the colorful circuit connections on the card because this could damage them.
4. Install the sound card into the free slot. It will click into place. If you feel any resistance, stop. The card may be inserted upside down. Remove and start again.
5. Once the sound card slips into place screw it back in. turn your PC tower upright and reconnect your peripherals (mouse, keyboard, etc.)
6. Power up your computer. It will detect the new sound card when it boots up. If it does not, refer to the instruction manual for troubleshooting procedures.
You are now ready to hook up those new speakers.
